RESULTS for the 2010 OPEN Short Story Competition

We have emailed each of the winners and commendations; if you are listed below but have not been notified, please contact us in case your notification has gone astray - thank you.

We apologise for the delay in getting results out, due to illness and other issues experienced by some of the judges. The results are listed below, with links to the top stories and judges' comments. Despite having a disappointing number of entries, we were not disappointed in their quality - lovely work, everyone, well done!

Please remember that judging is always subjective, and as usual we had some quite contrasting scoring between our judges. Each person sees something different in each entry, so while one judge may mark a story highly, another may go totally the other way. The marks are then averaged to reach our final scores, and this year the judge with the Casting Vote was Jo Holloway.

ANTHOLOGY: The 2011 Competitions Anthology will be produced later this year; once we have established what it will cost, we will contact everyone again so that you can place pre-orders, and we can know what size the print run should be. Thank you!

IMPORTANT : Because we did not reach our target number of entries, we have been forced this year to cut the prize monies by half. (The readers and judges have waived any fees; thank you, Team!)  Judging will continue, and the best entries will still be published in our Anthology in 2011.

Prizes are now as follows: First prize £75, second prize £35, third prize is one of our books of your choice.

AS STATED PREVIOUSLY (now amended, see above) :

PRIZES: First prize £150, second prize £75. Third prize is two of our books. Winning and Commended entries will be included in an Anthology. Note that if there are enough entries, prizes may rise in value. If there are fewer than 100 entries, prizes will be adjusted fairly according to entry fees received.
