SEPTEMBER WRITING COMPETITIONS:

THE WINNERS ARE IN!

We have had a fascinating journey through a vivid variety of stories, from writers all over the world - what a pleasure! The best of these entries will appear in an anthology early in 2009, combined with the best of the competitions currently running (closing May 31st).

Winning Stories and Commendations are listed below. Click on the Titles in the listings to read them. Click on linked names to see a bit about the authors themselves. Judges' notes and a little about the authors appear at the bottom of the page for each winning entry.

The judging was tight, and provoked a lot of discussion! You can see some of the more general judges' comments here - your story may be covered by some of the notes, and we hope that even if not, you will glean some insight into the way we think, and will be prepared for the next competition.

If you were one of the entrants who requested a professional critique, please be patient - we hope to get those out by early next week. Thank you! Also, this is a last chance offer for anyone who would still like to order a critique of their entry; please contact us.

CHRISTIAN SHORT STORY COMPETITION:

Note: this was a somewhat more complicated result. Some of the entries that were actually better written than the final winners contained supernatural elements that were non-Biblical, and thus lost marks for being inappropriate. In a clearly categorised competition, writers do need to be sure they are meeting the general standards of that category.
